Carvable stones other than four "precious stones" diamond, emerald, ruby and sapphire "were" called "fine stones".
This terminology is now forbidden in France, since the decree of January 14th, 2002 ._ Only the naming "gemstone" must be used for all the stones. Also the naming "precious stone" is forbidden.
The Anglo-Saxons keep using the terms of "precious stone" and "semi precious stone".
