Chalcedony

  • Etymology : Named after the village of Chalcedon (now Kadıköy) in Turkey. It is a district of Istanbul
  • Discovery: 1546 by Agricola
  • Type localityKadıköy (Chalcedon), Istanbul Province, Marmara Region, Turkey

Chalcedony is a variety of quartz.

It can exist in various shades. The chalcedony that originally came from Turkey is blue. The green limestone is Chrysoprase. The orange chalcedony is Carnelian. The black chalcedony is Onyx.

Care of chalcedony: It is very suitable for steam or ultrasonic bath cleaning.
